Rush Hour 3

It is fairly dissapointing to see that the Shatti Plaza cinema here in Muscat has chosen to 'low level' movies as opposed to viewing the much anctipated Rush Hour franchise in it's 2nd sequel: Rush Hour 3.

They chose to pay a handsome amount of money to view other movies before their worldwide debut such as Live Free or Die Hard; Spiderman 3 amongst the top 'blockbusters' of this past summer. But what baffles me is that they cannot do this for a number of other movies, considered to be in the top list of movie-goers here in Oman.

I guess that's the strategy of a monopoly; give them what you think they want and if they don't like it they can always wait for the DVD.

I don't think Shatti Cinema pays anything extra to get movies early. They've just been lucky to have agreements to be the exclusive cinema in Oman for some studios which this year have had the biggest movies of the summer. In some past years it was the opposite and their studios didn't have the best movies which forced us to go see movies in Ruwi or Bahja cinemas. It looks like Rush Hour 3 does not have a simultaneous global release plan like Spiderman 3 or Pirates of the Carribean 3 and Transformers. That's why it might not come out in Oman till a week after the US. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if things change.

Then again, Shatti is going to show some of the best films of the summer over the next two weeks. One August 8th we get Bourne Ultimatum, Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof and Ratatouille.

I was informed once by the Manager of the cinema that they do, in fact, pay an extra sum of money to get movies here earlier on time but others are programmed - as you said - to come out at the same time as the US release date here.

I do hope they end up getting Rush Hour 3 at the same worldwide release date. However, I will be looking forward to the end of the Bourne trilogy. But I wouldn't bet a pack of cards on Death Proof and Ratatouille. Since Death Proof had bad critical approval and Ratatouille isn't half funny to me. I'm waiting on Ice Age 3, though.

Ratatouille has been called Pixar's best film by many critics. I love animated movies, and Pixar is the one studio to never disappoint. They are yet to make a bad movie.

As for Death Proof, it's Tarantino. Even if it's not up to his usual standard it would still be better than most crap we see. I think the movie bombed in the US because it was a double feature with Planet Terror. People don't want to stay in cinemas for that long. What we're getting here is the extended feature that showed in the Cannes Festival, not the part of the double feature that they saw in the US.

Still Bourne Ultimatum is the one movie I've been waiting for all summer.

For being excited, I will go with Muscati's list more than "Rush Hour 3".

Guess I can wait.

I'm really disappointed.

I thought I would get to watch this movie in the theatre before my brother, whom is in the US, and get to tease him because I thought Shatti Plaza would manage to screen it two days earlier than the wide release. But... Oh well, I guess I can still wait.
